Imagining The Dream

I was encouraged to write a more full-time blog by my Americorps "boss".  She's the one in charge and the one who edits and contributes to the blog for the Partnership To End Homelessness that I write for.

I drive for Lyft.  This keeps me afloat because the monthly stipend from Americorps just almost covers my rent.  I have to drive to pay my car payment and insurance and utility bill.  I have to buy gas for my car too and buy groceries when my Snap benefits run out.  It was pretty easy to get the Snap benefits being an Americorps member.

I am at a coffee house.  There are mostly college kids here it looks like.  It's pretty busy here.  I never visited or worked out of a coffee house when I was in school.  I like it.  It is nice being in this community with everyone doing their studies.  I can tap into the brain waves of higher learning.

I've been considering higher learning lately.  I looked into various Grad programs around and Ph.d programs.  I've got the undergrad and the grad degree so logically it seems the next step is the Ph.d.  It's hard to find a good program though, it seems, that logically fits into my next step of schooling.

I did look into the UN, the United Nations.  They have internships.  That would be fantastic but you must be enrolled in a Grad or Ph.d program or have been a recent grad.  I am not sure what program to go into.  I like the idea of being a peace ambassador.  This makes me smile.  So maybe a diplomacy program.  It sounds daunting too.

Peacehaven is where I was assigned as an Americorp member.  It's  a community farm and adults with special needs live there.  I was imagining being in a hut this morning.  A cozy hut with a fire place and an earthen floor.  A small sink and a small counter.  The bed can fold out from the wall for more room.  There is a path outside.  No cars.  There is an outdoor water house and bathroom, composting.  Other residents live nearby.  There are gardens around and the dogs and cats run free.  We live simply and sustainably with the land.  We walk barefoot often and have chats and song and dance around the fire.  It is really beautiful living so closely with nature.

That's my dream.  I don't need to focus on the way things are.  I want to focus on the dream, my dream of living with the Earth.

Today I will meet with the Partners Ending Homelessness.  I want to talk to them about homelessness and housing.  Maybe they will participate in the Memorial Walk to commemorate people who died while homeless.

Also, there is the non-profit class.  I have that today as well.  It's a two hour class.  So far pretty good.  I have learned that as a non-profit one can make a lot of money!

Tonight I plan to drive for Lyft and make some money.  This is something that I have to do to make money.  I hope I can find a better way to do that but in the meantime I am grateful.

Thank you for listening.  May all your dreams come true!
